There's a rule of thumb in business: What you measure improves. Finding ways to collect your data is one thing, but making these numbers accessible to your entire team is always a challenge. Your marketing team might focus on the Google Analytics dashboards, while sales and customer retention teams rely on payment processing or CRM reports. And when it comes to sharing relevant information with your stakeholders, it gets even tougher.Google Data Studio is a free tool that syncs with all your data sources, allowing you to create unique and customizable metrics dashboards that are relevant to your entire team. You can even create branded reports with data visualization to make the numbers come alive.Read MoreThe bulk of the work lies in the setup. You'll easily connect Data Studio to your data sources, whether that's a Google product like Analytics or Sheets, or a third party connector. Once these systems are linked, it's time to create your reports. From the dashboard page, click on the plus sign in the bottom right corner—or choose from one of the templates to give you a quick start on the design and layout of your report. In the report building area, you can start adding metrics. Click Insert in the navigation bar to reveal a dropdown of available options, from bar and pie charts to pivot tables and filter controls that help you narrow down the information displayed on the page. Once you decide the metric type (chart, table, etc.), you can configure the data parameters: choosing the source, metric, comparison date range, applicable filters, and more. If that sounds overwhelming, it can be—but remember that the more time you spend setting up the report, the more value it will provide when it's ready. In addition to metrics, your reports can include images, shapes, and text, all branded to fit the look and feel of your company. The final product offers visual context that the raw numbers themselves can't provide. Once the report is set up, it's time to share it. You can copy and paste the embed code to add it to a website page, send the Share link to your team (they can access the report with a single click), create an email delivery schedule (you'll get an updated report delivered straight to your inbox), or download the report as a PDF.The beauty of a metrics dashboard created with Google Data Studio is that you can give a comprehensive, attractive look at what's really happening with your campaigns and business projects. The flexibility of content and layout means that you can create a report that guides viewers through the contextual story of what the raw numbers mean, which can lead to stronger, more informed decisions in your company.
