Crane daily pre-use inspection checklist
This checklist is required to be completed each shift prior to operating the crane.
What does this form include?
This form contains 7 sections:
Crane Type
- What type of crane is being inspected?
Equipment Number
Date of Inspection Date
Visual Inspection
- Travel areas free of obstructions? (Housekeeping)
- Wheels/trolley rollers seated properly on rails/beams?
- Conductors and collectors free of debris?
- Festooned cable running free, not tangled or damaged?
- Wire rope/chain is in good repair?
- Wire rope spooled neatly on the drum?
- Block sheaves are free from damage?
- Hook rotates freely?
- Hook not spread more than 15% or bent more than 10 degrees?
- Safety latch is in place and is still functioning?
- Pendant is free of damage and buttons move freely?
- Pendant is clearly marked?
- Location of main power shut-off is known and is easily accessible?
- Maximum capacities are clearly marked in required locations?
- Secured to the foundation? (JIB ONLY)
- The bumpers and stops are intact?
Operational Inspection
- Does each button on the pendant work as indicated?
- Are signal lights/horns working?
- Do the brakes work in all directions?
- Is the upper limit switch working?
- Is the lower limit switch working?
- Are there at least 5 wraps of rope remaining on the drum with the hook at the lowest point?
- Are there any unusual noises or conditions noted?
Approval For Use
- Does this crane pass the visual and operational inspections?
