Preparation

Identifying Hazards
- Are there any other hazardous chemicals or materials to be managed?
- Will the removal take place in a confined space?
- Does the removal involve working at heights?
- Is there the possibility of heat stress?
- Is there risk associated with electrical equipment?
- Is there any unusual or specific hazards associated with the removal work, such as brittle roofs?
Security, Signs and Barriers
- Has all entry points to the removal area(s) been signed posted with appropriate asbestos warning signs and/or barriers? [Regs s469]
- Has the removal area(s) been isolated from other parts of the building and outside so as to prevent asbestos dust or debris from passing beyond the contained removal area(s)?
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Have all removalists been provided with sufficient sets of PPE that meet the requirements of AS/NZS 1715 & 1716?
- Are workers wearing RPE clean shaven (no beards or other facial hair or stubble)?
- Has workers wearing RPE undergone a 'fit test' in order to determine their suitability to wear RPE?
